Ljubljana

“It simply isn’t an adventure worth telling if there aren’t any dragons.”

This one has dragons and castles and love locks and glass bridges and freak sculptures and so much more! But first:

LOOK at this view from my Airbnb at Ljubljana! JUST LOOK AT IT –

Ljubljana is the capital and largest city of Slovenia. Very authentically vintage – is the best way to describe this city. Time has slowed down there..

Heart eyes!!

I rarely go for shared apartments in Airbnb, but our trip to Ljubljana was a last minute decision and there were not too many choices available. Hotels were slightly on the higher side and they didn’t give us the chance for the early check-in- which we were looking for. We barely got to spend any time in the apartment as our itinerary was packed! However – I made time to enjoy an ice-cream staring outside the window, anyway!

They have a pretty cool market on the weekends in the main square. It’s HUGE and has a sharp contrast between tons of local produces and Chinese handicraft!
If you are there for a short trip, like I was, I would suggest to go to the three cute little bridges around the main square. After that, find a nice little coffee shop and just chill by the river side. It’s your holiday, after all!

It is a pretty cool city with cooler people. Exhibit A –

If you are short on time, sadly it is better to skip the castle, as it will take up 3-4 hours easy. Besides, I absolutely did not want to miss seeing the bridges and I am glad I didn’t. Each of them has a peculiarity. One had gorgeous sculptures, while the other had a glass floor and thousands of love-locks. Yes. Love-locks – like the ones you find in Paris, Cologne, Blacksmiths & Rome.

Here is where things get interesting. Or weird.

The bridge with love-locks is actually named “The Butcher’s Bridge” I would rather name it “The paradox bridge”

Because when you walk on it, on one side you will see a thousands of love locks and on the other these grotesque sculptures depicting Adam and Eve shamed and banished from Paradise (on this bridge, maybe), Satyr startled by the Serpent, Prometheus, running and disemboweled, suffering his judgment for having given knowledge of fire to mankind. All this together forms this one of kind bridge!

Oh, actually the reason why we traveled all the way to Ljubljana was to go visit Vintgar Gorge and Lake Bled. The day we did (well, attempted) to do that was the day when everything went wrong! Here’s the link to that blog – www.bombbaekar.com/travel/bled/
