Bled

“Half the fun of travel is the aesthetic of lostness.”

I was so excited: a proper travel-blogger-like photoshoot in Bled – awaits me!
Two castle, one on each side of me and I striking a cute pose right in the center, just another awesome day in the life of a travel blogger. Not one but TWO castles in a single snap! Can you beat it?

Sigh.

That was me day dreaming. Reality turned out to be very very different.

It had just stopped raining when we got there but it was still so cloudy! Not a perfect start.

We decided to rent out an e-bike to go to Vintgar Gorge, this insanely gorgeous-offbeat-must see natural attraction.

We were given a map with some very rough directions and told that “if everything goes right, you will reach the Gorge in 1 hour of cycling. If everything goes right, yes. Now, maybe it wasn’t the wisest decision to find Vintgar Gorge on a bike, all by ourselves, on your first visit to this place!
And indeed, needless to say, we got lost 😛

We used the printed map, tried Google Maps, looked at the alignment of stars but, after two hours of roaming aimlessly through beautiful fields and braving the chilly weather, we decided the best thing to do was to go back to the starting point.

Don’t get me wrong: renting the e-bike was still an experience I would recommend to each one of you but, please, ensure that you understand the map and maybe ask the renters to put the location on your Google maps.
The problem was Google Maps kept suggesting us a road which was a proper highway. It wasn’t safe to ride cycles therell!! On the other hand, the printed map given by the rental company takes you to Vintgar Gorge through tiny villages and fields, which is a much more scenic and safe route than the highway.

Well, if you are able to understand the map…

TIP: ask the rental company to mark the same route that is there on the printed map on Google Maps for you.

Here is a picture of two very lost tourist in Bled. Guys, say hi to my brother –

Then we went to Bled, to check that travel-blogger-like photoshoot off the To-Do list.
By the time we reached the castle, my iPhone’s battery died 🙂 To be fair, I was using it a lot since morning and in no way it was going to survive two hours of google map usage.

Despite all, I was like “okay, no worries. Improvise and adapt, adapt and improvise! My brother has his android phone and maybe I can get at least some decent pictures.”

I was just kidding myself, because our troubles did not stop there, obviously.

All was perfect for those picture… except for the weather that was still so cloudy (no natural light, therefore), the fact that his phone was three years old and, what is more, we were able to spend only five mins at the Lake before it started to pour down.

So, ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce to you the only decent picture I was finally able to get (drumroll):

🙂

Eventually, we found shelter at the pizza place right across the lake.
And that pizza was the first and last thing that went right that day! I was so thankful for it that I almost cried!!

What a day it was! Actually, no regrets, just some tragically funny memories <3

At the end, we caught the evening bus and headed back to our Airbnb in Ljubljana. We slept like a baby that night.
