European Summer

“Nothing but blue skies.”

People say a Euro tour is something everyone should experience at least once in a lifetime. I agree. But I have a tiny addendum 😀 You should not only visit Europe but spend at least a month (if not the entire summer) in a city of your liking in Europe. There is no better way to experience Europe than as a local.

My city was Vienna.

Vienna has a lot to offer. You can easily spend weeks here exploring the city or having a leisurely vacation.

Also, Vienna can be a super convenient base stop for your Eastern Europe adventure. It is super easy for you to get to 7 countries from Vienna. Just a couple of hours by road and by spending less than 15 Euros, you can go  from country A to country B. And B to C.

Now, to make this long summer stay easier for you – I am going to give you some tips on how to score the best apartments for longer period of time such as a month.

Option 1 – Airbnb

If you are planning to spend 2-3 weeks in Vienna or any other city, then I recommend stretching that 3 weeks period to 4 weeks . Because that will get you an easy 30 to 40 percent discount on your Airbnb listing. Most hosts on Airbnb offer a chunky discount if you were to book their apartment for a month (28 days). You can spend the extra week travelling to nearby cities and leaving your luggage in your long term apartment. Trust me, you will save a lot if you do this, just need to be a bit smart with planning of the itinerary.

This is the room that I rented. Even thought the listing was just for a single room in a shared apartment, I had my own sitting area, dinning table and even a private little balcony!

Option 2 – Facebook Groups

Vienna has a lot of universities – which means – come summer time – thousands of rooms which were rented by these students for a long term are now available for you to sub rent ( as most of the students will be travelling or going back home for summer vacations).

You will find some beautiful rooms, right in middle of the city – for a fraction of the price of Airbnbs.

All you need to do is be a part of the Facebook Groups which are created exclusively for this kind of short term rental. When you see a listing that you like – get in touch with the person who is subletting the room. Just make sure you do this at least a month in advance of your planned vacation.

I was able to find this beautiful room in a shared apartment on one of these groups. And something similar would easily cost over 2000 euros per month. And I got it for one third of that price.
